‘Pursuit of Perfection’ is a powerful speech on body image.
In a society that is highly image focused, this talk will ground your audience showing how we can change our perception of perfection to bring everlasting happiness into our lives.
Delivered in person in Australia or via Zoom to any audience in the world, ‘Pursuit of Perfection’ can be delivered as a short speech, keynote or workshop at your next event.
Change your perception, change your happiness.
Who's more perfect?
Have a look at these two photos.
The one on the left is of Miranda Kerr, who is estimated to be around 5’9 (1.75 m) and 120 lbs (54 kg). The woman on the right is Ashley Graham, who is also a famous supermodel, estimated to be approximately the same height as Miranda Kerr but is about 80 lbs, or 37 kg, heavier.
So here’s my question to you: who’s more ‘perfect’?
Is perfection achieved when you model and exemplify society’s expectations? Or, is it achieved when you accept your body even though it isn’t considered the stereotypical, sought-after body of today’s society?
The complex world of self-love
Self-love and self-acceptance are complicated because they actually have little to do with your actual, objective appearance, but more to do with your perceptions and attitudes about your body.
The problem is we don’t live in a vacuum. We live in a complex and highly competitive social world in which books are often judged by their covers.
So how’s a person to win in a world where butts are perceived ‘better’ than brains?
Playing the game (and winning)
This pursuit of unachievable perfection is arguably life’s most dangerous game, leaving millions feeling unworthy in their own skin. Yet, more and more, a massive shift is under foot: the world is starting to wake up and understand that what makes us different, makes us beautiful.
In this relevant and highly relatable talk, Dr Katherine helps people understand the what, how and why of body image and most importantly, key steps that you can take to create a positive change for our generations to come.
Your audience's beautiful brains will get a boost by learning:
How to rise above an image-focused world
Why feelings are valid but don’t define who we are
That life isn’t perfect, so why should we be?
Tools to tame our inner bully when it tells us we are not enough
Helping our youth avoid the perils of perfection
