Speaking Topic: Lead with Courage

Amplify positive energy with a compelling communication style
and be a driver of purpose-filled change.

This empowering and engaging speech on courage can be customisable for your next event and is sure to set your audience alight. Exploring the concept of courage, attendees will take a deep dive into what courage means in today’s society and how we can build and apply courage to our lives to help us rise above the noise.

Delivered in person in Australia or via Zoom to any audience in the world, ‘Lead with Courage’ can be delivered as a short speech, keynote or workshop at your next event.

"I have a dream"

In 1963, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr delivered a speech before a crowd of 250,000 people during the March on Washington. Why did so many people turn up despite potential violence and harm?

A year later, Nelson Mandela gave his most famous anti-Apartheid speech after already being imprisoned for 2 years. During the powerful 29 minutes, he captured hearts by proclaiming that he is "prepared to die" for a "democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities".

There are hundreds of other examples of great orators, speakers and leaders - but the question is: what makes them great? How do they captivate an audience and lead with courage, despite unforgiving political circumstances and social environments, standing their ground despite the threat of physical harm?

The true act of courage

The term courage often spurs idealistic images of bravery - the knight who saves the damsel in distress, or the army that goes into battle despite unfavourable circumstances.

Yet interestingly, the etymological background of the term 'courage' has less to do with bravery and more to do with belief, coming from the Latin term cor - meaning heart.

As such one could argue that courage is less about protecting oneself from physical harm and more about minimising psychological harm by remaining true to one's self and one's beliefs.

While on the surface this seems simple enough, think back to the last time you had a challenging conversation, whether it be about politics, homelessness, welfare, vaccinations, dietary choices or the black lives matter movement.

Were you able to stand your ground despite opposing positions? Or were you more concerned with keeping the peace and fitting in?

Cultivating courage in a tall-poppy world

While some individuals might be born with this unique and natural gift, others are clever enough to know that it’s a skill set that anyone can learn. And it's a lesson like no other: not only how to stand up for your beliefs but also to stand out in the crowd.

Many of us feel like changing the world is an impossible task, and rightfully so: wars continue, inequality persists and evils can prevail.

Yet as Mother Teresa once said “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across waters to create many ripples.” It is the small acts of courage that often inspires others to create change; motivating people to step up to challenges, accelerate collective growth and activate true potential.

In this heart-pounding talk, Dr Katherine will guide the audience to create their own DNA-specific version of courage, enabling them to have difficult conversations, stand up for what's right, and battle through tough times and make a difference to the world.

Your audience will become empowered by:

  • Creating an inspiring communication style that leaves a lasting and magnetic impression
  • Quitting their need to ‘fit in’ to avoid conflict and develop the skills to be confidently unique
  • Becoming amplifiers of positive energy and drivers of action
  • Becoming the initiators of a positive ripple effect
