Speaking Topic: Future You

Setting the bar higher to create your remarkable version 2.0.

We've all heard how we need to develop a growth mindset and utilise our unique skills to reach our goals, but in reality it doesn't take long to fall by the wayside. This in turn damages our self-esteem and willpower, leaving us unmotivated and unenthusiastic to achieve anything worth doing.

Which leaves us with the question: what’s the point of having unique skills if we don’t use them to positively influence the way we think?

The answer is the holy grail for all entrepreneurs, self development junkies, team leaders and anyone looking to make their mark.

Delivered in person in Australia or via Zoom to any audience in the world, ‘Future You’ can be delivered as a short speech, keynote or workshop at your next event.

"What if this is as good as it gets?"

In the movie with the same title, Melvin (played by Jack Nickolson) storms into his psychiatrist’s office asking for help. The doctor, currently occupied with a patient, reminds Melvin he is required to make an appointment. Defeated, Melvin enters the waiting room and delivers the quote "what if this is as good as it gets?" to the other patients.

Can we teach an old dog new tricks?

In 'real life', the maladaptive mindset that Melvin portrays was long thought to be a lifelong genetic predicament; a part of the human condition was set in stone, much like the colour of our eyes.

For example, if we were born anxious, we would never be able to become relaxed and confident. If we were born to be a follower, we would never become a leader.

“It’s all in the genes” people would say - some people won the lottery, while other people were kicked to the curb. Yet despite Melvin's seemingly impossible to fix mindset, this Oscar winning movie shows that change is possible under the right conditions.

This is when you ask: 'but what are these conditions?'

Activating your potential

Research has exposed the possibilities of psychological and behavioural change in the field of neuroplasticity (new neural connections) and neurogenesis (new neural growth). Similar to computers, we can ‘update’ and improve both our hardware and our software over our lifespan - how cool is that?

Yet while ‘updating’ is something that automatically happens on a daily basis, it is a process we can stimulate and encourage if we so choose. The question is: why aren’t more people choosing to make improvements? Quite simply, it’s hard to change your mindset with the same mindset that got you there in the first place.

Just like a personal trainer can help you tighten your tush, with the right recipe the brain can strengthen and evolve to do incredible things, even through simple, daily activities.

The first step to 'future you'

Your audience may come from all walks of life: some may have aspirations to become entrepreneur of the year, or lead the way with new innovation; others may be looking for a fresh start or clarity on their future path. Regardless of where they’re starting, in this engaging talk, "Future You", Dr Katherine provides the step-by-step recipe to program your brain so that you can expedite a specific and clear pathway to success. Best of all, the process is way easier than doing pushups.

Your audience will gain clarity on:

  • Exactly what they want to achieve and why they want to achieve it.
  • How to conduct a character trait inventory - to know what’s working; and what's stunting potential
  • How to manage unfavourable traits and master favourable traits
  • The way to end feelings of self-defeat and feel whole again (self-complete)
  • How to (re)discover strengths and personal value to amplify true potential and maximise success
